Sky Velvet Vassar
Sky Velvet Vassar was a young musician who studied violin, cello, piano and flute. She loved art, poetry and dance and she spoke fluent German. Sky was born in Berlin, Germany and moved to New Mexico with her family when she was three years old.
Sky had a generous heart, endless poise and curiosity beyond her years. She was joyful and quick to laugh and was deeply compassionate. From a young age, Sky was a natural leader with a thoughtful sense of social justice.
Sky passed away in January 2010 at the age of thirteen. The Sky Velvet Vassar Music Foundation was established to honor Sky’s love of music and aims to inspire and support New Mexico youth who share Sky’s remarkable passion, sensitivity and artistic talent.
